England, a registered nurse and certified nurse midwife, developed the "birthing from within" approach in a series of birthing classes to help mothers reclaim and celebrate the spiritual, emotional, and psychological aspects of birth as a rite of passage. Her book is a collection of methods that have been used for class participants/5().   Birthing from Within by Pan England and Rob Horowitz- A pretty good book. I didn’t really connect with her writing style, but she does offer some good . Pam England, and Rob Horowitz PhD, are the authors of "Birthing From Within" If you are interested in learning more about developing the pain-coping mindset and skills needed to birth through the pain of normal labor, read the 65 page section called "Birthing Through Pain" in our book, BIRTHING FROM WITHIN: An Extra-Ordinary Guide to Childbirth. Birthing From Within is unique in the exercises you're given as you work through the book. There are a lot of writing exercises. And you're introduced to the concept of birth art. I highly recommend you work though the writing and art exercises.   For approximately the first half of the book, the author tells birth stories and associates a drawing/writing activity for the reader. Birthing from within childbirth preparation classes consists of beliefs about pain, baby care education, arts and crafts, journaling, training for coping with pain, role playing, footbath, singing, etc.
